On December 14, we were walking with my partner along the coast in the morning and saw a blockhouse on one side of the coast before we reached Charco de Olaf. On the other side, I saw an old German shepherd dog on a chain.
He is very thin, has dysplasia and hair is missing from parts of his body due to a flea infestation, and flies are swarming around his ears. After speaking with the owner, he gave the dog water and food. I asked the owner if he let him out, and he replied no. The dog is too old to go for walks.
Although the German shepherd is in a miserable condition and probably also ill, the owner told me that he still wants to get another shepherd dog from America.
The owner of the German shepherd also has a small puppy (probably a Yorkshire terrier) that also suffers from the owner’s circumstances and receives too little care and attention. When the puppy came out of the house briefly to eat a little of the leftovers lying around, we immediately noticed that the puppy had already developed a fear of people.
When I offered the owner the help of ADEPAC Canarias regarding the dogs, he refused the help, saying that the dogs were doing great with him and that the dogs still served their purpose.
The German shepherd deserves to have a nice home for the rest of his time on this planet and to receive appropriate medical care. The puppy still has his life ahead of him and is already anxious when people are around.
